Last Sunday morning Lila woke up with a 102 degree fever. Since she had just gotten shots on Friday I just assumed that the fever was a delayed reaction to the vaccinations. By Monday evening I could tell my baby was getting worse so we loaded up and went to the doctor. I had warned the doctor that a child at daycare had been hospitalized with RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus), so they tested Lila for it and sure enough she tested positive.
For those that don't know, RSV is actually very common. Most children have been infected with it at least once by the time they are 2 yrs old. The thing is that it affects each child differently. With some, you can't even distinguish between RSV and the common cold. With others, it can lead to respiratory illnesses such as bronchiolitis or pneumonia. Unfortunately, unless other symptoms appear there is no medicine to treat RSV since it is a virus.
We have spent the past week patiently waiting for Lila to get better. I never thought I would say this, but thank goodness Aaron and I are on opposite shifts at work! He was able to stay home with Lila during the day so that I would not have to miss any work. This was also a blessing in disguise in the sense that it allowed for Aaron and Lila to have more 1:1 time than ever! I can tell today that she definitely has a new relationship with her daddy!
As of today Lila is fever free and at about 90% of her old self. At our check up Friday we discovered a slight ear infection (her 2nd to date) and were also given an asthma inhaler to help with her breathing. So far we have only had to use the inhaler twice a day and hope to be completely off of it by Tuesday. Now we are just keeping our fingers crossed that she doesn't give daycare a run for their money tomorrow since she has had nothing but constant attention for a solid week!
