Monday, 1/26, our office sent people home at noon so that we could avoid driving on the icy roads at night. Plus, several of the school districts were closing early and kids needed to be picked up. I had gotten a new wireless router that morning so that I could sit snugly in my living room to work through the storm (since my home office is in the middle of converting to a nursery). Little did I know how bad the storm would get!
Tuesday, 1/27, our cable went out at 9:30 a.m., which meant I could no longer work. I climbed in the bed to watch a DVD with Daisy, but never saw the end of the movie because the power went out at 11:45 a.m. So I switched to reading one of my pregnancy books, "The Girlfriend's Guide to Pregnancy" (very cute read if you are a first time mom).
Tuesday and Wednesday were a blur of watching trees completely fall apart, playing Rummy with Aaron by candlelight, and catching up on a LOT of reading. Thursday and Friday mornings I showered in the locker room at work just so I could have a warm shower and dry my hair. P&G also cooked breakfast both mornings for people without power. We had several families sleeping in conference rooms at night just to stay warm. I'm so thankful that between my mom and DeAnna I had a warm bed to sleep in for a couple nights.
Saturday, 1/31, I spent the day with DeAnna and Brenner while Aaron and James went fishing. We all needed a day to unwind from our week. DeAnna and I decided we would have a nice steak dinner ready for the boys when they got in. Fortunately, Aaron had to go home before dinner to get his uniform for work and pick up Daisy. As he was packing he heard the answering machine kick on! He flipped on a light switch and we had power!! YES! And it only took 5 days! So our steak dinner turned into a celebration dinner. We went home Saturday night with full tummys and tired bodies. Never in my life have I been so happy to wake up on a Sunday morning and do nothing but go grocery shopping and do laundry all day! There are still a few people in my office that do not have power and it is now 10 days since the storm hit. As much as Aaron and I were put out by the storm, I am so thankful that we did not have to deal with all of the devastation that others in our community have had.

Our poor one and only tree. It bent even further to the ground before the storm was over, but my camera was dead and I couldn't charge the batteries. After the ice melted some of the limbs managed to pop back up, so at least it wasn't a total loss.
